University Mental Health Day 2023

A message from the Vice-Chancellor Professor Jane Harrington

At a time when so many people are experiencing the challenges of the cost-of-living crisis, are being impacted by such global events as earthquake or war, and are still living with challenges created by the Covid-19 pandemic, maybe even more so than ever, it is truly important that we continue to enhance our work on mental health.

I am proud of the work that we have done so far. As an institution, we know that the success of our community is underpinned by good mental health and wellbeing. This is made explicit in our overall university strategy, as well as our Student Success Sub-Strategy and People Enabling Strategy.

As part of this work, this academic year we have refreshed our Health and Wellbeing Strategic Action plan, which includes a wealth of actions that we will be taking throughout the next couple of years to further enhance the University of Greenwich’s community’s mental health. In recognition of the need, we have also very importantly increased our dedicated resource to support those who may be struggling. In addition, the high-quality research undertaken by the Institute for Lifecourse Development (ILD) enhances the wider understanding of mental health conditions and therapies, supporting health care providers, as well as national policy makers.

Another key area of this work is raising awareness and the University Mental Health Day aims to do just that. You can find the wealth of events and activities that will be taking place on this page. I really hope you will be able to join them.
