University of Greenwich secures full ITT accreditation

The announcement follows previous confirmation from DfE that Greenwich had completed phase one of the process

Following an in-person visit, the University of Greenwich has successfully secured Department for Education accreditation for Initial Teacher Training (ITT) provision from September 2026.

Organisations who deliver ITT leading to qualified teacher status (QTS) must be accredited by the Department for Education (DfE) and deliver ITT courses that meet a strict ITT criteria.

Phase 1 of the accreditation process consisted of two elements of the accreditation application, the written and verbal submissions, which were reviewed together by an assessment panel of one DfE official and two DfE ITT market quality associates.

During Phase 2, the university worked with a DfE ITT market quality associate to ensure that ITT courses have been fully developed in line with the ITT criteria and are of the highest possible quality ahead of delivery from September 2026.

The full process is now complete.

The University of Greenwich offers a full suite of accredited teaching training programmes, from early years to further education.

The University partners with a significant number of educational providers across London and the South East to train these educators of tomorrow.

Prof. Steve Corbett, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health and Human Sciences at the University of Greenwich said:

“This accreditation is a major achievement and a testament to the hard work and dedication of our School of Education. It reflects the high quality of our courses and our commitment to preparing outstanding teachers for the future.”

Prof. Jane Harrington, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer of the University of Greenwich said:

“The University of Greenwich has a long history as a provider of excellent teacher training. I am pleased that the Department for Education has completed the process to reaccredit our initial teacher training programmes.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank staff from our School of Education who have worked so hard to achieve the reaccreditation.

“I look forward to continuing to see Greenwich graduates go on to make a real impact in the world in teaching for many years to come.”
