Updated Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Essentials Training: Action required for some staff

Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Essentials training course will be updated on Monday 20 April 2026. The updated course provides an understanding of the Equality Act 2010 and what it means for staff in their day‑to‑day roles.

What’s changing

The refreshed EDI Essentials course explores:

  • Understanding what Equality, Diversity and Inclusion is and why it matters
  • The responsibilities of individuals and organisations to uphold equality, fairness and respect under the Equality Act 2010
  • How EDI principles connect to university policies, guidance and real‑world case studies

This course is available to everyone at the university and will become mandatory for all staff and affiliates from Monday 20 April 2026. You must re‑take and pass the course every three years following your initial completion.

We remain committed to protecting academic freedom and operating in line with our Freedom of Speech Code of Practice. This training supports a shared understanding of the values and behaviours expected across our university community.

What you need to do if you are currently working through the existing course

If you are in-progress of completing the existing course, you must finish the current version by Wednesday 15 April 2026. Check your progress via Horizon > Learning > My Learning.

If you do not finish the existing course by this date, you will need to enrol onto the updated version when it launches on Monday 20 April 2026. You can access it via Horizon Learning.

If you have already completed your initial training

Your existing pass date remains valid. You will be automatically re‑enrolled onto the updated course when your three‑year refresher is due, and you will receive an email notification at that time.
