Jono Smith, Vice President Student Activities, shares an update which includes staff changes and a reflection on his January one-to-one meetings. Over to you, Jono...

Student group one-to-ones

Midway through January I started inviting committees of our student groups to come in for a meeting. The aim was to give our group leaders the chance to feedback on anything and everything from the year so far. I've had some positive feedback and it's great to know so many of our groups are having an amazing year. On the other hand, there where definitely some areas that I've identified as needing improvement. I'll work on these and hopefully make some changes to further enhance the experiences of our members.

Netball Little and Large

Our Netball club held a very successful 'Little and large' day with The Pointer School in Blackheath. Over 20 students from the school attended the day which involved a warm-up, some drills and ended with a tournament. Teams were made up of both students from the Pointer School and members of our Netball club.

It was a huge success and is hopefully the first of many.

This was a fantastic example of how of Greenwich Students' can reach out to the local community and perhaps inspire the next generation of sportswomen.

Female only gym trial

This February the Sports Deck Gym is offering female only gym sessions completely FREE of charge.
I've already received plenty of positive feedback from students about this trial. If all goes well, we'll look at implementing this across all gyms and check what days and times are best suited to implement further sessions. Thank you to Iain Metters for his help on this.

Becki leaving

As most of you are aware, Becki McWhinnie is sadly leaving us this month. Becki has been a great asset to the SU and to the university as well after taking on Active GRE on behalf of the university. She will be missed by all of Team Greenwich and Greenwich Students' Union.

I'd like to say a HUGE thank you to Becki for all the help, guidance and support she has given to me over the past 7 or so months. She has helped to make my time as VPSA as enjoyable as it possibly could be. I'm sure you'll all join me in wishing Becki the best of luck in her new and exciting role at the University of Birmingham.
