Make the most of your New Years Resolutions

TLDRoffon

After a festive filled Christmas and New Year break, the University of Greenwich is ready to take on 2017 and help you stick to your New Year's Resolutions.

Healthy eating

Did you over-indulge in the past few weeks? According to a study the UK's students gain two stone in the first year of university, but it's never too late to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

The Dome, Stockwell Street Café and the Student's Union all offer a range of healthier treats. Why don't you swap your usual cheese toastie for the soup of the day, or have your usual burger with a salad instead of fries? We also have a range of vegetarian and vegan options.

Exercise

Now that the Christmas break is over, perhaps it is time to sweat off a few pounds. Our fully air conditioned gyms (at Avery Hill and Medway) cater for all your fitness needs. Both offer weights and a range of cardiovascular and resistance machines, with personal trainers who can help. The Dome gym also shares a space with the campus café, so why not chill out with a healthy juice after your workout?

We are also partnering with Pure Gym to hold 8 weeks of free Running for Fitness Sessions. They last 1 hour each, including a warm up and warm down – with the run lasting around 40 mins. Meet at the Pure Gym Greenwich Movement every Wednesday at 2pm and every Sunday at 10:30am for the next 8 weeks. (Starting 11/1/2016)

Work smarter

We are here to support you throughout your time with us and celebrate with you when you graduate. Our staff are on hand to provide advice and help with any problems you may have. We also have online resources to help you get back into the working spirit.

The Library and Academic Skills teams offer subject and academic support so that students can make the best of the resources available to them. There are Workshops, one to one's, various online programmes and the Academic Skills Hub.

Find out more about what is available via the Portal under the My learning page. Look under Library support and you will find links to LibGuides, Library and Academic Skills workshops and iProgress online courses.

Pick up a new hobby

The Students' Union off a number of societies where you can learn a new skill and make new friends. Why not join one of our excellent sports teams? Basketball, football (soccer and American) netball, cricket, hockey and kickboxing are just a few of the clubs you could consider.

Or if societies are more your thing, you can write or perform in drama or dance, celebrate cultures and religions, volunteer for a cause or just meet with likeminded people to enjoy a common interest.

Socialise more

With many new students starting in January, as well as all of our students returning from their Christmas break, we have been working hard to ensure everyone has something fun to come back to. With mini freshers style events and activities taking place on all three campuses, there's lots to get stuck into.

For all activities on Greenwich and Avery Hill campuses visit the SUUG website, and for those at Medway check the GKUnions website for more information.

If you're still stuck for New Year Resolutions here are a few suggestions we have gathered from around the University.

"Get better at sending birthday cards to friends and family."

"Do not be late for work!"

"Reflect every day on what has gone well even if I have had a bad day, to ensure I can see the positive things in life."

Happy 2017! It's going to be a good one.
