Update 27.1.2026: This seminar by Mary-Paz Arrieta Paredes is postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. It is no longer going ahead on 28th January at the planned time. Apologies for any inconvenience. A new slot for this seminar will be shared in due course.

This event is part of PEGFA’s seminar series where current research papers are presented and discussed. In this session we will hear Mary-Paz Arrieta Paredes present a paper on 'Unpacking the climate change actions of SMEs in the UK: A multilevel analysis of financial drivers and operational barriers', which is described in the abstract below.

This paper examines multiple elements which affect Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in the UK to perform climate change actions (CCAs). The research employs iterative methods to evaluate CCAs drivers and barriers, in which multilevel modelling reveals complex data structures, identifying multiple relationships that standard models miss. These shows that CCAs in SMEs depend on multiple factors including firmographics, access to finance and innovation adoption. The analysis underlines that there are major regional differences and trade-offs between innovation spending and the likelihood of CCAs. This study provides a sound evidence-based framework which will enable policymakers to create specific sustainability initiatives.
