Senior Lecturer in Business

Dr Sylvester Mujakperuo is a Senior Lecturer in Business at the Executive Business Centre, Greenwich Business School. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the Nigerian Defence Academy, an MBA in International Business from Birmingham City University in the United Kingdom, a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (PGCert HE) from the University of London and a PhD in Business from the University of Brighton. He also holds the CIMA Advanced Diploma professional qualification in Management Accounting. Dr Mujakperuo joined the University of Greenwich in March 2021 as a Teaching Fellow in International Business and has since taught and contributed to the development of several postgraduate modules including Foundation of Scholarship and Research, Scholarship in Business, International Business Projects, Global Strategy (Analysis and Practice) and International Entrepreneurship. Prior to joining the University of Greenwich, Sylvester was a Business Lecturer at the School of Business and law, University of Brighton.

Dr Sylvester has a very rich managerial and entrepreneurial background. He is a retired military officer with 10-years managerial experience in the areas of Finance and Investments with the Nigerian Army Finance Corps. He also has a further 12 years’ experience in Business. He is an Industrialist with vast international trade experience, an author, and an award-winning entrepreneur. Between the period of June to December 2007, he was Nigeria’s top earner in commission and received a total sum of USD 110,000 for the sale of RVI/RCI Holiday timeshare. In 2014, he was one of the winners of the Youth Enterprise with Innovation Business plan competition in Nigeria and he received a prize money of an equivalent of USD 45,000. In 2017, he won the USD 100,000 Prize at the African Entrepreneurial Award in Casablanca, Morocco for his contribution towards helping to fight deforestation and the amount of used wastepaper that end up in landfills.  In 2018, he was a first level finalist at the Harvard Business School African New Venture Competition. Sylvester has equally won and successfully executed several international procurement contracts amounting to well over USD 370,000 particularly in the paper industry. Together with his team, he has helped to successfully install paper making machines for over 60 SMEs. Sylvester also provides mentorship and consultancy services to several SMEs and upcoming entrepreneurs in Nigerian. He was also a mentor at the University of Greenwich Enterprise challenge.

Responsibilities within the university

Dr Sylvester Mujakperuo currently holds several roles within the Executive Business Centre and the Greenwich Business School. He is the Module leader for International Entrepreneurship, Co-Module leader for MBA Professional Practice and Portfolio lead for MBA International Business. Previously, he held the position of Programme leader for the Executive MBA Programme. Within the Greenwich Business School, Sylvester is one of the Faculty Academic Conduct officers. The role involves investigating academic misconduct cases by students at the University of Greenwich Business School.

Research / Scholarly interests

Dr Sylvester Mujakperuo is interested in International Business research particularly around the areas of SME internationalisation, financing and growth in both emerging and developed economies. Other areas of interest include the role of networks in internationalisation, the importance of resources in the internationalisation of SMEs, the motives for internationalisation, the importance of private equity funding for SMEs and cross-country comparative studies particularly on emerging market equities.
