Dr Irtiza Qureshi

Research Fellow at the Centre for Inequalities with the Institute for Lifecourse Development.
Irtiza is an interdisciplinary researcher who's work bridges health, education, marginalised communities and using frameworks such intersectionalism to seek equity and social justice.
Irtiza is also an Assistant Professor in Public Health at the University of Nottingham where he is the strategic lead for equality, diversity and inclusion in the curriculum. He is involved in teaching and contributing to the planning, design and development of objectives and materials for degree programmes in the area of public health and global public health. Previously, he worked on a range of research projects with the University, investigating health inequalities with marginalised communities including the mental health of children from migrant backgrounds.
He has previously worked in a number of research roles including at the University of Leicester where he worked on the qualitative aspects of UK-REACH project (The United Kingdom Research study into Ethnicity And COVID-19 outcomes in Healthcare workers). This study represented a unique partnership of leading researchers and clinicians with national organisations including the General Medical Council, Nursing and Midwifery Council, Royal Colleges and ethnic minority healthcare worker associations that investigated if, how, and why, ethnicity affected COVID-19 clinical outcomes in Healthcare workers. Consequentially, his work has contributed to submissions to the ongoing national COVID-19 Public Inquiry.
