Marcos Seijo

Dr Marcos Seijo BSc (Hons), MRes, QTS, PhD

Senior Lecturer in Exercise Physiology

Dr Seijo has been lecturing in Sports Science at the University of Greenwich since September 2014, where he also completed a postdoctoral research training from December 2013 to September 2014. His current teaching areas, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, are sports physiology, sports injuries, exercise prescription for pathologies and rehabilitation. Dr Seijo holds a degree in sports science, QTS (Qualified Teacher Status), a master's in research, and a PhD in sports physiology from the University of A Coruña. He has extensive experience in high-performance sports as a former elite long-distance runner (13.45 in 5000m and 28.50 in 10,000m) and in his role as technical director of the Athletics Federation of Galicia, Spain. He continues to coach athletes across a range of competitive levels. Dr. Seijo has been working in the area of health and sports medicine since 2004. He specialises in rehabilitation therapy and exercise prescription in adults with cardiac, metabolic and immunological conditions. He has designed and organised a number of sporting events in Spain, aimed at promoting health education, and reducing cardiovascular risk factors in three groups:

  • General population
  • Disadvantaged communities
  • Primary schools

His research interest is exercise prescription for patients with cardiovascular and metabolic conditions, and his doctoral studies were focused on the cardiovascular risk profile and the prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors in active people and amateur athletes. Dr Seijo is currently an Academic Consultant for the Office for Health Improvements and Disparities (OHID), Department of Health and Social Care, UK GOV.
