Natalie Blakely
Lecturer
Natalie is a Lecturer in the Public Health Team within the School of Human Sciences. Prior to this, she held the roles of Teaching Fellow and Specialist Academic Support Lecturer after joing the Public Health Team at the University of Greenwich in 2023.
Before entering academia, Natalie worked in health improvement for a local authority in Kent, where she organised and delivered individual and community-based health promotion initiatives to support healthy behaviour change.
As an alumna of the University of Greenwich, she is committed to student success and particularly enjoys teaching the social determinants of health, health promotion and behaviour change. She is also passionate about advancing health and wellbeing beyond the classroom, striving to reduce health inequalities and championing equity through a strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

- 2024-2025 Specialist Academic Support Lecturer piloting the Enable and Support Project aiming to increase retention of Year 1 BSc Public Health students

Research / Scholarly interests
Natalie is interested in the intricate interplay between lifestyles, risky health behaviours such as alcohol consumption, poor diet and physical inactivity and the wider determinants of health. She has a particular interest in the societal impact of obesity and related health complications. Also, further research interests include understanding the motivation for behaviour change and the development of evidence-based solutions to empower individuals to make sustainable lifestyle choices.
