Val Chandler has extensive experience in the NHS as a clinical nurse in medical specialties and as a manager and project manager in London and Kent and Medway. Val was employed as a Research Fellow in Health and Social Care at the University of Greenwich from 2010 until 2014 when she became a Post Graduate Research Student and Vice Chancellors' Scholar.

  • 2015 Poster presentation "Women and Alcohol" at British Sociological Association annual Medical Sociology Conference at the University of York
  • 2016 Prize awarded for "Artistic Design" of poster presentation "Women and Alcohol" at University of Greenwich Faculty of Education and Health Postgraduate Student Research Conference. 
  • 2016 Oral presentation "Women and drinking at home" at University of Greenwich and Royal Borough of Greenwich Public Health Event entitled Invisible Drinking at home: The new challenge for local and national policy makers.
  • 2018 Monetary Prize awarded for oral presentation "3 Minute Thesis" at Faculty of Education and Health 'blue sky' Research Day: Researching together, making a difference.

Research / Scholarly interests

Val's research is a study of the experiences of women over 30 years of age drinking alcohol at home.
