Key details
Dr Ivars Krastins
Post Doctoral Research Fellow
Ivars Krastins is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Computational Science and Engineering Group at the University of Greenwich. He re-joined the university in 2023, four years after completing his PhD on Parallel Lattice Boltzmann Method for Convection in Dendritic Solidification.
Between his doctoral studies and current role, Ivars worked at the Institute of Physics, University of Latvia, where he progressed from researcher to senior researcher, focusing on magnetohydrodynamics. He continues to contribute to research and teaching at the University of Latvia on a reduced scale.
Ivars holds a BSc (2012) and MSc (2014) in Physics from the University of Latvia, both centred on magnetohydrodynamics in fusion reactor cooling systems. His research interests span computational fluid dynamics, parallel computing, and the physics of complex systems, with a particular emphasis on applications in energy and materials science.

Research / Scholarly interests
My main research activities involve numerical modelling of liquid metal flow in external fields for processes like additive manufacturing, casting, and fusion reactor cooling. I mainly use the lattice Boltzmann method and commercially available software to perform these tasks.
