Andy Popperwell
Postgraduate Researcher
After reading Physics at QMC and a postgraduate year at the Royal College of Music, I spent many years at the BBC World Service in a variety of roles before becoming a Further Education lecturer. After retirement I undertook an MRes in Historical Soundscapes at LSBU and I'm now taking that to the next level with a PhD at the University of Greenwich. I volunteer at Copped Hall, near Epping, where my research is centred, and at the Essex Record Office Sound Archive.

Research / Scholarly interests
In parallel with the continuing restoration of the ruined 18th century Copped Hall, near Epping, I am attempting to restore the soundscapes of the building with a particular focus on the years 1750-1800. My practice-based research includes a regular series of sound-based events at the mansion.
