Francisco Mendez

Mr Fran Méndez BA, MA

Lecturer in Design

An internationally awarded designer and co-founder of Stupendous Studio. Fran has helped global brands such as Adobe, Inditex, Iwoca, among others. With significant knowledge in technology and innovation, he has worked as a senior consultant for the brands Huawei (European Design Centre) and Samsung (Samsung Design Europe) for more than eight years.

Fran has represented Spain in the International Biennial of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean (BJCEM) held in Skopje, North Macedonia in 2009. His design has been published in international books, magazines and platforms including Idn Magazine 25.5; Material Matters Vol 3, (Victionary Hong Kong); The Design Kids Global; Adobe; and has been exhibited at “Show us your type” (Brief Festival, La Fiambrera Gallery Madrid Spain, 2015), “36 Days Expo” (Barcelona Spain, 2017) and "Give me 5" (Madrid Spain, 2018). Fran was part of the jury at ANUARIA (Spanish national graphic design awards) in 2017 [XXIV  edition].

Fran has a BA in Fine Art from the University of Salamanca (Spain, 2007). He completed the Erasmus graduate scheme at Academia di Belle arti di Brera (Milan, 2006) and went on to study a Masters programme in teacher training at the Universität Politècnica in Valencia (Spain, 2008). He has a Masters degree in Graphic design and communication from ELISAVA (Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona Spain, 2008). He completed the Leonardo graduate scheme in The Netherlands at Gerrit Rietveld Academie (Amsterdam, 2009) & The Royal Academy of Art (KABK, The Hague, 2009). He is a Fellow at the University of Greenwich (London United Kingdom, 2019).

Current Funded research project participation:

Blended learning in design-practice studio-based teaching

This project will explore the best practices for blended learning relating specifically to the delivery of design-practice studio-based teaching. The project will research in more detail how existing practices could help shape an innovative methodological approach (policy) through a series of pedagogical workshops.
