Key details
Dr Vicens Colomer Domínguez
Lecturer in Applied Linguistics and Spanish / Spanish Coordinator
Vicens Colomer Domínguez is a Lecturer in Applied Linguistics and Spanish. He holds a degree in Romance Philology, a CAP (PGCE equivalent) in Spanish Language and Literature, and an MA in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language from the University of Barcelona (UB). He completed his PhD in Applied Linguistics and Modern Language Learning at the University of Roehampton (London), under the supervision of Dr Eva Eppler (University of Roehampton) and Dr Vicenta González-Argüello (University of Barcelona). In addition, Vicens is a recognised trainer of Additional Languages (AL) teachers. His research focuses on addressing the individual needs of AL learners through the design of tailored materials, as well as the collective needs of groups by exploring ways to foster sociocultural and intercultural competences among students in non-immersion contexts, and on the impact such learning has on students’ language identity. Vicens has collaborated with several British universities, including the University of Roehampton, LSE, and Birkbeck, University of London, as well as international institutions such as the University of Barcelona (through the Erasmus+ programme) and New York University (NYU), where he was a visiting scholar during the course of his doctoral studies. Finally, it is important to highlight his contribution to the creation of the ELEUK Association, established with the aim of promoting the exchange of academic knowledge and enhancing the academic profile of AL teachers, particularly Spanish, in the UK. He served as Communication Officer during the first five years of the association, later becoming Chair during the organisation’s second term.
