How to apply for a Degree Apprenticeship

Find out more about next steps and how to apply.

You’ll need to apply to one of our apprenticeship programmes through your employer.

Employers can contact us at apprenticeships@gre.ac.uk to discuss your recruitment and workforce needs.

You can also find details of our apprenticeship programmes on the Government’s apprenticeship website

For prospective applicants:

Degree apprenticeships are work-based learning programmes, which means you must first obtain a job with an organisation that offers this type of opportunity. After securing a position, you can then apply to the degree apprenticeship programme connected to that role.

You can find degree apprenticeship opportunities through:

  • Company websites, particularly if there are specific organisations you are interested in working for
If you are already employed

Starting a degree apprenticeship may still be possible if you are currently working. The first step is to have a conversation with your employer to determine whether they are willing to support your apprenticeship. These apprenticeships can help businesses develop in-house talent, address skills shortages, and support employee progression, making them a valuable option for many organisations.

If your employer is able to support you, they can contact us directly at apprenticeships@greenwich.ac.uk . We will then assist both you and your employer with the next stages, including guidance on the application process for joining the programme.

Eligibility

To start on an apprenticeship, you must meet the Department of Education eligibility funding rules, which include:

  • Be employed in a relevant role for at least 30 hours per week
  • Have your employer’s approval
  • Have lived in the UK or EEA for at least three years
  • Spend at least 50% of your working hours in England during the programme
  • Meet the specific entry requirements of your chosen apprenticeship programme
For employers:

If you’re an employer interested in enrolling an apprentice, simply email our Apprenticeship Team to get started at apprenticeships@greenwich.ac.uk .

We’ll arrange a meeting to talk you through the programme, outline your responsibilities as an employer, and explain the onboarding timeline.

Our team can also guide you through setting up your Apprenticeship Service account, registering the University of Greenwich as your training provider, and requesting funding as appropriate.

If you do not have an apprentice ready to start, we can offer support throughout the recruitment process, including helping you create your vacancy, advertising it with through our network of partner schools and colleges, and the government website. We can also assist with the shortlisting of applicants if required.
