Great facilities in a beautiful setting
The university’s Faculty of Engineering and Science is split across the Medway Campus in Chatham, Kent, and the Greenwich Campus in Greenwich near Central London. The Greenwich Campus, based in the Old Royal Naval College site designed by well-known architect Sir Christopher Wren, is famous not only for its UNESCO World Heritage Site status but also for the fact it has been used as a filming location in big Hollywood films including Pirates of the Caribbean and Thor.
Yet within the historic walls of these university buildings are advanced, purpose-built computer labs belonging to its School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences. The site also contains dynamic teaching spaces such as comfy communal areas, modern study booths and adjustable workstations, as well as cafés, the Lower Deck Bar and a gym.
You couldn’t ask for more of the facilities they (Greenwich) have, and the university also has a fantastic Students’ Union you can talk to if you have any problems.

Study in a global hub for innovation
London is consistently ranked as the best student city in the world (QS Top Universities, Best Student Cities, 2022, 2023 and 2024) and there are many reasons why. It’s a culturally diverse city that boasts world-famous sites, excellent transport networks, and great leisure activities. London is also ranked as the fourth city in the UK for highest density of businesses and is ranked second for highest earnings for full time employees, with the average London salary being almost £40,000 (Ciphr, Best UK cities for job opportunities, 2023).
Many School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences students have named the university's location as a key factor in their decision to apply and have valued the opportunities for personal and professional development that studying in the UK capital has offered them.
I wanted to study at Greenwich because of its location in London. The city is a global hub for technology, innovation, and finance, offering numerous opportunities for internships, industry connections, and networking.

I believe that being in the London area has had a lot to do with how inspired and energised I have felt during my journey.

Enriching experiences in Greenwich
Within walking distance of the university’s Greenwich Campus are the visitor attractions the Cutty Sark, the Royal Observatory, National Maritime Museum (free entry) and Queen’s House (free entry). The stunning Painted Hall is located within the Old Royal Naval College itself and is free for Greenwich students to visit. Students can also spend their free time relaxing by the River Thames and enjoying the panoramic views of London, or by sharing a picnic with friends in Greenwich Park or grabbing something to eat in Greenwich Market. Boat trips can be booked from the area to one of the UK’s most recognisable landmarks, Tower Bridge, and pubs, restaurants, and shopping can all be found in the vicinity too. The O2 arena is just a short journey away via public transport and holds concerts from popular artists all year round.
Students can also take advantage of the university’s inter-campus bus to travel to its Avery Hill or Medway campuses, or can jump on a train from London to explore the UK’s South East region and more.
With transport, history, and opportunities for work and leisure on their doorstep, as well as a beautiful setting and excellent facilities in-house, Greenwich students are sure to have plenty of enriching experiences throughout their time at university.
When choosing where to study, Greenwich felt like the right fit for me. Its architecture, location, history, and quality of computer labs were all factors that helped my decision.
