Our This is Our Time Staff Awards 2021 took place at our historic Greenwich campus, 200 colleagues joined us in person and over 380 people watched online.
Our event was opened with a welcome from Vice-Chancellor Prof Jane Harrington followed by our awards event presented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof Javier Bonet, Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof Jane Roscoe and Chief Operating Officer Peter Taylor.
Below we have shared our 2021 winners and would like to say a huge congratulations to both our finalists and winners. Each winner was presented with our student designed award.
We also hosted two more celebration events on our Avery Hill campus and Medway campus, each providing colleagues with the opportunity to see the unique and innovative work happening across our community. We will be sharing highlights from all of our events across our three campuses soon, thank you to everyone who joined at one of our events or online.
Our 2021 Winners
The Positive Impact Award: Maureen Montague
Because of Maureen, colleagues feel validated to talk about their own experiences.
Mentor of the Year Award: Dr Eve Rapley
Her approach to mentoring is broadly conceived, extends across multiple contexts and with reach across the whole university.
Star of the Future Award: Natalie Turner
Natalie exemplifies the attributes and behaviours that we endorse at the university, exemplifying collaboration and continuously pushing herself and develop.
The Inclusivity Champion Award: Dr Myrtle Emmanuel & Jas Seehra-Pearce
Both Jas and Myrtle are passionate advocates of equality, diversity and inclusion. They challenge and question to ensure representation for the BAME community.
Team Player of the Year: Khadija Islam
During the last year Khadija has been an inspiration to our team. Despite bad news and testing moments, Khadija has continued to shine, smile and support her colleagues and students.
Outstanding Team of the Year: FES Technical Team
They are a fantastic, hugely talented team with a massive commitment to their work and supporting the work of students and researchers.
The Collaboration Award: Debbie Sheppard
The collaboration between Debbie and ILS colleagues has been incredibly impressive. This is a truly incredible example of collaboration between experts.
The Collaboration Award: Mentoring Working Group
The group continuously build on relationships and contacts to continue supporting the mentoring programme, as well as offering other means of engagement which will further help our students.
COVID-19 Outstanding Response Award: Adult Nursing Team
The nursing team has provided the students, university and our partners with an outstanding Covid-19 response that the students know they can always rely on.
Partner of the Year Award: Charlton Athletic Football Club
The partnership has reinvigorated a sense of LGBTQ+ community and inclusion across and beyond the university.
Unsung hero of the Year: Dr Ruby (Chinzeng) Duong
Without the support of exceptionally helpful and capable staff such as Ruby, we would not be able to maintain the high-quality standards that enable us to function as an academic institution and fulfil our duties towards our students.
Inspirational Leader of the Year: Alison Cork
Alison is an outstanding leader, proven to be a consistent source of strength and leadership throughout the year.
Inspirational Leader of the Year: Jessica Swan
Jessica leads by example, celebrates success and thanks the team frequently. She believes in us and what we do.
The Greenwich Excellence Award: LGBT+ Staff Community
All of its work has been underpinned by a commitment to promoting better representation of and provision for the LGBT+ community.
The Greenwich Excellence Award: Tony Mann
Tony works tirelessly to promote the welfare of students and to raise the standards in the Mathematical Sciences and in the university in general. Always with inclusivity, collaboration and impact at the heart of what he is doing.
