Preparing for Exams and Assignments: Specialised academic support

As we approach the exam and assessment period, we focus on developing these skills and providing extra assistance from our Libraries during this time.

Our Libraries are now open 24/5 until Friday 20 May

From 14 March to 20 May our Libraries will be open 24hrs over 5 days from Monday - Friday each week and will be open at weekends from 9am to midnight.

Our opening hours have been extended to allow you access to our physical resources, study spaces and PCs as well as our LapSafe Laptops whilst you study for your exams and complete your assignments.

What to Expect: On Campus Exams: Find out more about our on campus exams, what to expect and some “dos and don'ts”

Writing For Exams: understand the difference between writing an essay and writing under exam conditions, the expectations from exam markers, and how you should approach this kind of test.

Referencing and avoiding plagiarism: how to reference sources using the Harvard system, and write ideas in your own words to avoid plagiarism.

Proof-reading your own work: learn how to improve your proof-reading skills and identify ways to improve your work before submission.

Extended one-to-ones and more from our Libraries

We have extended our one-to-one tutorials with more staff available to help you in our Later in the Library drop-ins. You can book a one-to-one tutorial with an academic skills tutor, subject librarian or digital champion who can provide support with assignments, preparing for exams, or writing your dissertation.

Our libraries give you access to 1.5 million books, journals and e-resources, and if a book is not available or at your home library you can always reserve it. On the rare occasion we don’t have what you need, you can use our Document Delivery service can give you access to books and journals not on our catalogue. If there is a specific text you need for an assignment, be sure to request it early. And our Chapter Scan service is here if you can’t visit our libraries for any reason.

Accessing past exam papers

Past exam papers are available to help you with your revision. To find an exam paper from the previous academic session,  go to the portal and click on the ‘My Learning' tab. Type in the course code of the exam paper you are looking for in the search box situated in the Assessments portlet.
