Making the move to university can feel like a big step. That's why the University of Greenwich's GREat Skills programme helps school and college students prepare for that next chapter, building their confidence and developing skills that will support them throughout their studies and beyond.
Through a series of interactive workshops, students learn how to research independently, think critically, communicate effectively and make the most of digital tools. They also explore ways to manage stress, adapt to new situations and develop good study habits.
The programme is currently available to students at schools and colleges within the university's partner network. By working closely with these organisations, we're helping more young people develop their potential and explore the opportunities higher education has to offer.
From January 2027, a new initiative, GREat Skills Online, will give Year 13 students who have applied to study at Greenwich the chance to take part in a series of interactive webinars. This includes students studying outside our partner school and college network.
The online programme will help students develop valuable skills, grow in confidence and prepare for university, wherever they're studying.
You can find out more about how GREat Skills helps students prepare for university on our GREat Skills programme page. Further details about the new online programme will be announced soon.
Extra support through scholarship
For some students, GREat Skills can also open the door to valuable financial support.
The GREat Skills Scholarship provides £2,000 towards the first year of undergraduate study at Greenwich, helping students with the costs of starting university.
Students at our partner schools and colleges who take part in the required workshops and other outreach activities may qualify, provided they meet the wider eligibility criteria.
Eligible students are considered for the scholarship automatically, so there's no application form to complete.
Find out more about who qualifies and how the GREat Skills Scholarship works. Eligible students taking part in the new online programme may also qualify for scholarship funds. More information about this will be available shortly.
