Practical Teaching Course in Higher Education (PTC)

Duration: 5 weeks | Non-credit bearing

Our Practical Teaching Course in Higher Education is those who are looking to begin developing some key skills in their teaching practice. Taking place each term during the academic year, the course offers a series of 5 sessions that cover various higher education teaching themes, such as; How we learn, inclusive teaching, engaging students, and developmental assessment and feedback.

The first four sessions are asynchronous and delivered through Moodle, allowing you to work flexibly at their own pace using videos, recorded inputs, interactive activities, and independent study materials. The final session is a live online microteaching activity held online, where you apply your learning and receive developmental feedback in a supportive environment.

Our PTC is free for all University of Greenwich staff.

Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCert HE)

Duration: 8 months | 60 credits (Level 7)

Our Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education is designed for early career professionals delivering or supporting learning in higher education but who already have some experience across the full scope of teaching practice. This includes the design and planning of learning,engaging in teaching (such as lecturing, facilitating seminars or workshops, supervision and similar), assessment and feedback, and the support and guidance of learners.

Our programme supports participants in developing a critical, inquiry‑based understanding of contemporary higher education pedagogy, enabling you to reflect on and enhance your existing practice within an academic context. Participants are expected to continue undertaking a full scope of teaching activities alongside the programme in order to further develop your experience and evidence of practice.

Our PGCert HE is accredited by Advance HE and also awards Fellowship (FHEA) on successful completion. It is open to all staff at the University of Greenwich and those teaching at our partner institutions. Registration typically opens in April or May, with the programme commencing in September.
