Are you a fellow with the Advance HE?

There are two main avenues through which you can actively support the GOLD Scheme. Becoming a mentor and/or a reviewer entails a rewarding process that could be considered part of your Continuous Professional Development. It helps you keep in touch with the learning and teaching practices of your colleagues whilst disseminating your own.

Becoming a GOLD mentor

The Academic and Learning Enhancement Team maintains a record of trained and approved GOLD mentors.

In accordance with Advance HE guidance it is imperative that all new GOLD and experienced mentors receive training. We have 2 workshops for mentors. The first of these is our GOLD New Mentor Development Workshop. This is a 1.5 hour webinar which is mandatory for new GOLD mentors, but may also be applicable to those requiring a refresher.

Mentors will be encouraged to participate in activities and discussions around how best to support GOLD mentees towards submitting a successful application. Using the Mentor Pre-submission Checklist and exemplars, the workshop will cover what makes a good mentor, what makes a successful GOLD application, how to support mentees' development of reflective and scholarly writing, what a good mentor reference looks like, knowing when an application is submission ready or not, how to support a mentee who is struggling and when/how to signpost a mentee to a GOLD drop in or writing retreat.

Dates for GOLD New Mentor Development workshops can be found and booked onto via horizon.

Advance HE requires all staff supporting Fellowship applicants to demonstrate current knowledge and understanding of the requirements for the relevant category of Fellowship. It is therefore required that all mentors attend an annual refresher CPD - the Annual Mentor Refresher Workshop for existing GOLD mentors (mandatory), 1.5 hours, online.

Dates for GOLD Annual Mentor Refresher workshops can be found and booked onto via horizon.

Becoming a GOLD reviewer

Greenwich staff who are SFHEA and are experienced GOLD mentors are welcome to enquire about becoming a GOLD reviewer. Please direct any enquiries to Dr Eve Rapley for an informal discussion. Reviewers are required to undertake initial training.

Advance HE requires all staff reviewing Fellowship applications to demonstrate current knowledge and understanding of the requirements for the relevant category of Fellowship. It is therefore essential that all active reviewers attend an annual refresher CPD session to remain in good standing and remain in the GOLD reviewer pool - the  Annual Reviewer Refresher Workshop for existing GOLD reviewers (mandatory), 1.5 hours, online.

Dates for GOLD Annual Reviewer Refresher workshops can be found and booked onto via horizon.
