Dr Ewa Stefanska joined the University of Greenwich in December 2020 as a Senior Lecturer in Forensic Psychology. Prior to this, Ewa worked at the University of Roehampton where she developed and was a Programme Lead for MSc Forensic Psychology.

Ewa is a chartered and registered forensic psychologist. She undertook her doctoral research on the topic of sexual homicide liaising with Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS – formerly the National Offender Management Service) and the Home Office. She completed her doctoral studies (Forensic Psychology Practice Doctorate) at the University of Birmingham. Ewa worked in various environments: community, secure mental health hospitals and prisons. The research and clinical experience she gained through this work has allowed contextualization of knowledge of the factors that are important to consider when analysing why individuals turn to crime. As a result, her teaching is enhanced by what she has learned from those faced with complex mental health and psychosocial difficulties.

Research / Scholarly interests

Ewa’s main research interests are in the areas of violent sexual and violent nonsexual offending. She has published and presented on the subject of sexual homicide as well as related topics such as sadism, stalking or intimate partner killings. In her research, she specifically concentrates on the analyses of evidence available from crime scenes. All of her lead research projects are carried out in collaboration with members of HMPPS (NOMS). Ewa is regularly invited to participate in peer-review process for scientific papers and books from journals in her field of expertise.
