Dr Ahmed Elamin
Associate Professor in Structural Engineering, Academic Portfolio Lead for Construction
Dr Ahmed Elamin is the Academic Portfolio Lead for Construction, Built Environment, and Civil Engineering at the University of Greenwich, a role he has held since 2023. He first joined The University of Greenwich in 2019. His academic career includes previous roles as an Assistant Professor in Structural Engineering at the University of Nottingham, China Campus, and as a Teaching Assistant at Sudan University of Science and Technology. He also brings valuable industry experience from his time as a Field-Based Construction Engineer in the oil and gas sector.
Beyond his university duties, Dr Elamin is actively involved in the professional community, currently serving as the Secretary for the South Eastern Regional Group of the Institution of Structural Engineers.
Dr Elamin's academic credentials are distinguished. He holds a First-Class BEng (Hons) from Sudan University of Science and Technology, an MSc in Civil Engineering (with Distinction), and a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Nottingham, UK, the latter funded by the prestigious Dean of Engineering Research Scholarship for International Excellence. He also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE) from the University of Nottingham.
His research focuses on advanced areas of structural engineering, including steel connections, concrete-filled hollow sections, numerical modelling, and the innovative use of waste materials as aggregate substitutes. Complementing his technical research, Dr Elamin is actively engaged in pedagogy, exploring effective teaching and learning methods.
His excellence has been recognised through multiple awards, including 'Mentor of the Year' and 'Top Students Evaluation of Teaching'.
