Soumya Prakash Rana

Dr Soumya Prakash Rana BTech, MTech, PhD, FHEA

Lecturer in Computer Engineering

Dr Soumya Prakash Rana is a Lecturer in Computer Engineering at the University of Greenwich. Prior to joining the University of Greenwich in 2024, Dr Rana conducted postdoctoral research on microwave imaging for stroke detection at the University of Manchester, and on microwave antennas with AI driven health analytics for breast cancer detection at London South Bank University (LSBU). He is also a Visiting Researcher at the University of Manchester and LSBU.

He holds a PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from LSBU, UK, where his research focused on ultra-wideband (UWB) radar sensing and AI-based biomedical diagnostics. He previously earned a Master of Technology (MTech) in Computer Science and Engineering from West Bengal University of Technology, and a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Burdwan, India.

His interdisciplinary expertise bridges mathematical modelling, radar geometry, antenna measurement, biomedical signal processing, microwave imaging, medical image processing, machine learning, and deep learning for healthcare applications.

He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and actively teaches and supervises across robotics, distributed systems, sensors, and AI. He collaborates widely on developing low-cost, impactful sensing solutions in healthcare and energy systems, and has contributed to multiple international conferences and peer-reviewed publications.
