Sports clubs
Societies and sports clubs are a great way to make connections, explore your interests, keep active and enhance your physical and mental wellbeing.
In 2024-25 there were 94 societies and 21 sports clubs and teams at Greenwich.
And if there isn’t a club or society for your interest, you can start your own! Every Greenwich student can apply to start a club or society.
Sports clubs and teams
Team Greenwich offers you so many ways to stay active and social. Whether it’s just for fun, or you’re interested in competitive sport against other universities, our clubs are a great way to connect and meet new friends.
Clubs and societies are organised through Greenwich Students’ Union and there are many to choose from - but sometimes they don't always fit into what you want. Any student can set up a club. Click here to find out what is required to set up a new Club.

University funding for sports
The University gifted Greenwich Students' Union £60k in a block grant to share between all clubs to help subsidise Union-run sport. Clubs bid for funding and a panel of GSU staff allocate based on a need's hierarchy.
Membership fees
Clubs also have affordable membership fees. Both these fees and block grant funding support your university sporting experience.
These fees and funding pay for costs including transport to matches, competition fees and local league affiliation/entry, governing body affiliation (e.g. Basketball England), coaching fees and officials and referees.

Societies
Societies are run by students for students. A wide range of groups are supported, such as academic communities, faith spaces and hobbies.

To join a society, simply find one you like, get in touch and then sign up or pay for your membership of the group. All groups should have their contact details on their webpage.
