Sam Rapp is a poet, playwright, short story writer, motivational speaker, winner of Crisis Homeless charity UK poetry slam 2017 and positive about dyslexia competition 2018.
Sam will be hosting this session to introduce us to her personal experiences and observations about mental health, through her poetry – in addition to providing an opportunity for us to talk about mental health and its impacts on us all.
Trigger warning: Mental Health is not an easy area to talk about, and as Mind report:
- 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem of some kind each year in England
- 1 in 4 people have suicidal thoughts
- 1 in 10 people self-harm
- 1 in 13 people attempt suicide
These are the reasons we need to talk about mental health, and it is also important to give anyone considering joining us for this conversation a heads up: references to suicide feature within one of Sam’s poems, titled ‘I Survived’.
Trigger warnings will be made during the session, with titles confirmed and a signpost towards content before anything is read or discussed.
NB: If you are at all sensitive to this topic, you are welcome to join us for the parts of the session that matter to you and disconnect for any parts that present a challenge.
