Professor Derek Moore

Prior to joining Greenwich, Derek was Head of the School of Psychology at the University of Surrey (2015-2018) and before this was Director of the Institute for Research in Child Development at the University of East London (2007-2015) where he also was Director the institutional REF 2014 submission.

Earlier in his career, he was a lecturer and Reader at UEL from 1995 to 2007 and prior to this was a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College, City University, and the Tavistock Clinic. Derek has a PhD from University College London, and is also trained as a bio-medical statistician.

Derek has undertaken many multidisciplinary studies of child development across the pre-natal to adolescent periods, looking at the effects of a range of risk factors associated with socio-economic deprivation and neuro-developmental difficulties. His aim is to generate better theoretical models that facilitate more effective and targeted interventions.

Professor Stephen Corbett

Deputy Dean and Professor of Professional Development and Learning

Professor Corbett joined the Faculty of Education, Health & Human Sciences as Deputy Dean in 2025.

Prior to joining Greenwich, Stephen was Interim Executive Dean for Humanities & Social Sciences at the University of Portsmouth (2023-2025) and before this Head of School for Education, Languages and Linguistics (2017-2023) during which time he also established the institution's Centre for Continuing Professional Development.

His career in education began in the further education sector, where he supported students with special educational needs and disabilities. He then trained as a Teacher in Accounting and Business and later progressed into leadership roles. After over a decade in the further education sector he transitioned from his college leadership role to leading a university collaborative network of further education initial teacher education providers over six campuses. This provision he later developed into an externally funded national programme which retrained military personnel to become qualified further education teachers. In recognition of his work across both Further and Higher Education sectors, Stephen was awarded an Advance HE National Teaching Fellowship in 2020.

Hilary Orpin

Associate Dean of Student Success

Hilary Orpin is an Associate Dean of Student Success. She is a Higher Education strategic leader with a proven track record in developing partnerships, leading a department, leading curriculum design, validation, and inspection.

She is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE. Her teaching and learning expertise were developed through lecturing in childhood, youth studies, education studies and youth and community work.

Prior to higher education she had a career as a professionally qualified youth and community worker, within the public and third sector. Managing a youth arts centre, road safety education projects as a regional worker for a national charity and led alternative curriculum projects alongside teaching excluded and disaffected 14-16 year olds.

She is a co-author of the book Transition into Higher Education.

Professor Rosana Pacella

Director of the Institute for Lifecourse Development

Rosana Pacella is Professor of Global Health and Associate Dean Research and Knowledge Exchange in the Faculty of Education Health and Human Sciences. She has been the Director of the Institute for Lifecourse Development (ILD) since its launch in 2019. Prof Pacella has an outstanding track record of internationally leading, impactful work, numerous high-quality publications (h-index 58 and >90,000 citations), and experience of managing large-scale interdisciplinary projects involving academics, practitioners and partners. Robust relationships with partner organisations have resulted in tangible beneficial impacts of her research on society, and she has won over £3 million in external funding from nationally competitive schemes. Prof Pacella is an internationally recognised expert in assessing national and global burden of disease, particularly assessing burden attributable to child and adolescent bullying and child maltreatment and in estimating associated costs. She has supervised 5 PhD students to completion.

Iain Kitchener

Head of School of Education

Iain is part of the executive team, working with the other faculty leaders to develop and deliver an effective strategy and experience for all students, staff and partners. He has responsibility for developing cross-faculty alumni engagement.

Iain heads the school of Education which covers everything from early years to doctoral study. He has been at Greenwich since 2007 and previously held a range of leadership and Initial Teacher Education roles.

Before working in HE Iain was as a qualified primary teacher, and a community mental health professional.

His areas of interest are educational leadership, child psychology; art education; the use of technology for education; and equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Beyond the university Iain is a part of the University Council for the Education of Teachers, he has also been a school governor; external examiner; charity trustee; and member of an All-Party Parliamentary Group on the teaching profession.  Iain is a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Charlotte Jeavons profile photo

Dr Charlotte Jeavons

Head of School of Human Sciences

Charlotte has worked in a clinical environment as well as community health improvement and dental service management.

Charlotte is currently Head of the School of Human Sciences at University of Greenwich. She has a PhD in (dental) public health ethics focusing on inequalities and their role in community programmes.

In 2023 she was awarded Honorary membership of the Faculty of Public Health in recognition of her work in the field of dental public health. More recently Charlotte has also been awarded Fellowship of the College of General Dentistry.

In 2024 Charlotte is the first former Dental Nurse to be elected as President of BASCD (2024-25).

Paul Newcombe

Interim Head of School of Health Sciences

Paul joined FEHHS is 2024 and brings 20 years of academic experience in leadership roles at two other London institutions.

At Kingston St George's Paul was Associate Professor in Adult Nursing and led across undergraduate pre- and post-registration nursing portfolios, acute and emergency care CPD and work-based learning. Paul then spent 5 years at University of Roehampton as Deputy Dean Healthcare Education where he established brand new nursing and allied health provision.

Paul has extensive experience in building and developing academic teams, successful PSRB curriculum development and enhancing the student experience.
