FAQ

What are the benefits of joining a summer school abroad?

Participating in a summer school abroad offers the chance to gain international experience, explore new cultures, develop academic and personal skills, and expand your global network. It’s also a great way to boost your CV and stand out to future employers.

Is there any financial support for summer school and how do I apply?

Yes, financial support is available through the Turing Scheme and the Global Greenwich Bursary.

The Turing Scheme is the UK government’s programme to provide funding for international opportunities in education and training across the world. You do not need to apply separately for the Turing Scheme. Turing Scheme fundings are not subject to application but will be available to all the students going on a summer school and calculated according to the specific programme.

You need to apply and be eligible for the Global Greenwich Bursary. Students must fill out an additional Global Greenwich Bursary application form to be eligible for it.

Undergraduate home students meeting at least one of the criteria below are eligible to apply for the bursary:

  • Student with an annual household income below £35,000
  • Students receiving Universal Credit or income-related benefits because they are financially supporting themselves and someone who is dependent and living with them
  • BAME student
  • Care leaver or care-experienced student
  • Student with caring responsibilities
  • Estranged students
  • Refugees and asylum seeker
  • Disabled students

More details will be provided during the application process

Will I receive financial support for visa and flights?

Unfortunately, we do not provide financial support for visas or flights. These must be booked and arranged individually by each student. However, to support you in the process, we organise Q&A sessions that includes Flight suggestions and a session with the Visa Compliance Team to help answer any specific visa-related questions.

What support will be provided?

  • Pre-departure event to help you prepare.
  • Q&A sessions covering various important topics
  • Fundings
  • Chaperones or Group Leaders for selected programmes
  • Travel insurance
  • Health and safety guidance

Does the summer school contribute towards my final degree?

Summer schools are non-credit bearing and do not count towards your final degree classification. However, they offer valuable extracurricular experience and can enhance your personal and professional development.
