Financial support

1) The Turing Scheme

The Turing Scheme is the UK government’s programme to provide funding for international opportunities in education and training across the world. You do not need to apply separately for the Turing Scheme. Turing Scheme fundings are not subject to application but will be available to all the students going on a summer school and calculated according to the specific programme.

If you qualify as Widening Participation (WP) student, you are eligible to higher cost of living rates and an additional travel grant.

If you meet one of the criteria below, you qualify as WP student. Please note that evidence will be required.

Widening Participants (WP) criteria

• Student with an annual household income below £35,000
• Students receiving Universal Credit or income-related benefits because they are financially supporting themselves and someone who is dependent and living with them
• BAME student
• Care leaver or care-experienced student
• Student with caring responsibilities
• Estranged students
• Refugees and asylum seeker
• Disabled students

2) The Global Greenwich Bursary

You need to apply and be eligible for the Global Greenwich Bursary. Students must fill out an additional Global Greenwich Bursary application form to be eligible for it.

Undergraduate home students meeting at least one of the criteria below are eligible to apply for the bursary:

• Student with an annual household income below £35,000
• Students receiving Universal Credit or income-related benefits because they are financially supporting themselves and someone who is dependent and living with them

Ghana to the World at The University of Ghana (Accra, Ghana)

Ghana to the World, is a three-in-one summer school. It is held in June for up to 4 weeks where participants can study, tour the vibrant and diverse regions in Ghana, and become catalysts for social impact and transformation through volunteering in disadvantaged communities. Participants also get to engage in fun cultural activities while experiencing the lush, green campus of the University of Ghana.

Dates: June (exact dates TBC)

Cost: approx. £2250

Vocational Impact Volunteering Programme: Criminology and Psychology South Africa

This immersive volunteer programme offers students practical experience in criminology, psychology, and mental health through a placement with a leading child protection NGO. The programme is tailored to your academic interests and provides valuable insight into South Africa’s legal and mental health systems.

Key Learning Opportunities:

• Support victims through counselling and court preparation
• Assist with child psychology and trauma recovery initiatives
• Participate in diversion programmes aimed at reducing reoffending
• Engage in community outreach and legal education projects

Students must study Psychology, Criminology or related Programme

Dates: 28 May – 28 June

Cost: £1590 + £265 reg fee

Included:

Accommodation, meals, airport transfer, in-country transport, 24/7 support, Travel Insurance, weekly laundry

Not Included: Flights, spending money, visas, vaccinations

Funding:

Vocational Impact Volunteering Programme: Psychology and Mental Health Ghana

Gain practical experience in psychology and mental health across hospital, psychiatric, community and child-development settings in Ghana. During this 4 week programme, students work alongside psychologists, psychiatrists, doctors, counsellors and other mental health professionals across 4 different hospital and professional settings. The placements provide exposure to clinical psychology, psychiatric care, counselling, assessment, rehabilitation and community mental health support.

The programme combines supervised practical experience, professional training, community engagement and cultural learning, helping students apply their academic knowledge to real-world situations while developing clinical awareness, communication skills and intercultural competence.

Students must study Psychology or related Mental Health Programme

Dates: 28 May – 28 June

Cost:  £1490 + £265 reg fee

Included: Accommodation, meals, airport transfer, in-country transport, 24/7 support, Travel Insurance, weekly laundry and housekeeping

Not Included: Flights, spending money, visas, vaccinations

Funding:

Morocco Volunteer Programme with Travelteer

Travelteer’s Morocco programme combines volunteering, cultural immersion and adventure in one unforgettable experience. Students contribute to impactful community development projects while exploring Morocco’s rich heritage and landscapes.

Programme Focus Areas:

• Education: Run summer schools and deliver English lessons to local children
• Infrastructure: Build and renovate community spaces, including water pipelines and women’s empowerment facilities
• Agriculture: Support sustainable farming through crop planting and livestock care

Dates: 27 June – 11 July (2 weeks)

Cost: £835

Included: Accommodation, Food, Project Transport, 24/7 support

Not Included: Flights, Visa costs, spending money

Funding:

1. Turing Funds: Eligible to all the confirmed participants

Students that meet WP criteria will receive:£315 towards living cost + up to £325 travel grant based on flight receipts

All other students (non-WP): £255
