How you will learn

Teaching

In a typical week, learning takes place through a combination of practice sessions, lectures and seminars. You'll carry out practical sessions in the strength and conditioning laboratories, discuss and develop your understanding of topics covered in the lectures, and work with other students and staff.

Contact hours may fall between 1pm and 6pm on Wednesday and Thursdays, depending on your selected format.

Class sizes

Class sizes vary by module. Lectures are normally attended by larger groups, and seminars/tutorials by smaller groups. This can vary more widely for modules that are shared between degrees. All students will have opportunities for 1-to-1 time with their tutors.

Independent learning

Outside of timetabled sessions, you will need to dedicate time to self-study to prepare for coursework, case study reports, presentations and interactive discussion sessions and independent research.

Our strength and conditioning laboratories, library and online resources will support your further reading and research.

Overall workload

Your overall workload consists of contact hours (lectures, seminars and practice sessions), independent learning, and assessments.

For full-time students, contact time is 12 hours per week with an additional 15 hours per week for independent learning. For part-time students, this will reduce in proportion to the number of modules you are studying.

Assessment

On this course, you will be assessed by essays, case studies reports, presentations, a portfolio, written exams, practical assessments, and an independent research project.
