Wolfson Centre

Research

At our Medway laboratories we conduct a broad programme of research relevant to today's industrial needs.

At the Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology, we have been pushing back the boundaries of bulk solids characterisation since 1973.

Often the starting point for our research projects are practical plant processing or operating problems for which little knowledge is available to reference. Research projects can be undertaken on a partially or fully funded basis for industrial companies. Alternatively, many projects attract sponsorship from a variety of national funding bodies.

Collaboration and partnerships

We work closely with industry and a wide range of other funding bodies. The duration of research projects is largely driven by the scale of the project and the deliverables sought. Some work takes a matter of days or weeks, whilst some projects are delivered through PhD studies and can take three years to complete. Access to a range of postgraduate or post-doctoral researchers means that great flexibility can be offered in delivering the research that is of most importance to your organisation.

If you are interested in studying to PhD with us, funding a project, collaborating in a venture, or would just like to come and use our equipment for your own research, please get in contact with us.

Research papers

Staff and students, past and present, have written a substantial number of technical and research papers, many of which have been presented at national and international conferences. All of these papers are available to industry.

A recent project resulted in the publication of the Best Practice Guide for Handling of Biomass Fuels and Coal-Biomass Mixes (this guide is not available electronically). To obtain your free copy, please email us stating your name, company and postal address.
