Open Day FAQs

We look forward to welcoming you to our Open Day event, to assist in planning your day please find our frequently asked questions and helpful information below.

Depending on the subject you are interested in, you will attend the Open Day event at one of our three campuses: Greenwich, Avery Hill or Medway. If the subjects you are interested in are taught on different campuses, you can use our campus bus timetable to plan your day.

Please read the relevant information for the campus(es) you are planning on attending to make the most of your experience at our Open Day event.

How do I get to the campus?

Greenwich

There are multiple ways you can travel to our Greenwich campus. You can get here...

  • by Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to Cutty Sark station.
  • by Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to Greenwich DLR station.
  • by train to Greenwich (10 min walk).
  • by tube to North Greenwich on the Jubilee Line and then the 129 or 188 bus to National Maritime Museum stop which is across the road from the campus.
  • by riverboat to Greenwich Pier (3 min walk).
  • by bus. Check Greenwich or Transport for London websites for more information.
  • by car. Public 'pay and display' car parks nearby. From 7 April 2025, drivers will need to pay a charge to drive through the Blackwall or Silvertown tunnels.
  • by inter-campus bus. Parking is free at our Medway campus. You can see the bus times here: Timetables — University of Greenwich - Bus Tracker Medway is free parking and Avery Hill parking has to be paid for via the Trust app.

Avery Hill

Our Avery Hill campus is situated in Eltham, in Southeast London. To get here...

  • by train, visit National Rail Enquiries for timetables, our nearest stations are New Eltham and Falconwood (approx. 15 min walk).
  • by bus, check out the Avery Hill or Transport for London websites for more information.
  • by car, parking is free on Saturdays and after 5pm on weekdays.
  • by inter-campus bus. Travel to our Greenwich campus and catch the 10am bus from outside of the Stockwell Street building.

Please note the entrance to the campus is on Avery Hill Road. If using Google Maps please look for the campus called ‘Southwood site.’ The ‘Mansion site’ is now closed.

Medway

There are multiple ways you can travel to our Medway campus, which is in Chatham in Kent. You can get here...

  • by train to Chatham Station (approx. 5 min by bus) or Gillingham station (approx. 20 min walk / 10 min by bus).
  • by car, parking is free on Saturdays and after 5pm on weekdays.
  • by local bus direct to the campus, check out the Medway or Medway bus services website for more information.
  • by inter-campus bus. Travel to our Greenwich campus and catch the 9am bus from outside of the Stockwell Street building.

Is parking available on-site?

Greenwich

Due to space limitations at our Greenwich Campus, there is no on-site parking available for Open Day attendees. Public 'pay and display' car parks can be found nearby.

You can park at our Medway campus for free and catch the complimentary inter-campus bus. The bus times can be found here: Timetables — University of Greenwich - Bus Tracker

You can park at Avery Hill Campus however it has to be paid through the Trust app on the day. You will need to make an account.

On-site parking is reserved for staff permit holders, disabled drivers and visitors with pre-arranged parking. If you have accessibility requirements and require a pre-booked parking space, please email opendays@greenwich.ac.uk.

Avery Hill

Parking must be paid for on the day through the Trust app.

Medway

Parking available on campus is free of charge for this event.

Check-In Points

Greenwich

Open Day Check-In points will be at the following locations from 10:45am:

  • Stockwell Street building School of Design and Creative Industries
  • Queen Anne building; ground floor for School of Law & Criminology, School of Humanities & Social Sciences
  • Queen Anne building: first floor for Greenwich Business School
  • King William building for School of Computing & Mathematical Sciences and School of Engineering (Construction)
  • Stephen Lawrence for School of Education and School of Human Sciences

To help manage queues and for safety measures, within your ‘important information’ email you will have been assigned a check-in point. Please use this allocated check-in point as this will also be close to your selected subject sessions.


Avery Hill

Head to the David Fussey at 10:45am to check-in and receive your visitor lanyard for access into our buildings.


Medway

You can check-in from 10:45am on the day of the event at Pembroke building.


Is the site accessible?

We want to ensure that your visit is enjoyable. If you or any of your guests have any mobility requirements or would like additional assistance, please let us know by emailing opendays@greenwich.ac.uk.

How can I access the schedule?

Open Day schedules provide a great way to plan your visit, explore the campus and attend sessions.

Links to personalised schedules will be accessible via the ‘important information’ email sent one week before the event.

At the event there will also be posters with a QR code you can scan to get your schedule.

Is there Wi-Fi?

For the University of Greenwich Open Day event, free guest Wi-Fi will be provided across all campus sites.

There will be posters around each campus providing specific step-by-step instructions on how to access the guest Wi-Fi.

Please ask the on-site staff if you require further assistance.

What else can I do?

Greenwich

  • Go on a student-led campus tour, departing from the Stockwell Street building.
  • Talk to our friendly support staff about admissions, fees & funding, wellbeing, and student accommodation in the Dreadnought building atrium.
  • Visit the Stockwell Street Library.
  • Tour halls of residence with one of our Student Ambassadors, departing from the Dreadnought building.
  • Find out about the Students’ Union and explore the and social spaces on campus.

Avery Hill

  • Go on student-led campus and accommodation tours, starting from the Mary Seacole building.
  • Talk to our friendly support staff about admissions, fees & funding, wellbeing, and student accommodation in the Mary Seacole building.
  • Visit our Avery Hill Library and Edible Garden.

Find out about the Students’ Union and explore the social spaces on campus.


Medway

  • Go on student-led campus and accommodation tours, starting from the Pembroke building.
  • Visit the Drill Hall library.
  • Talk to our friendly support staff about admissions, fees & funding, wellbeing, student accommodation, in the Pembroke building.
  • Find out about the Students’ Union and explore the social spaces on campus.

Do I need to pre-book the accommodation and campus tours?

Greenwich

You can pre-book campus and accommodation tours at our Open Days and Offer Holder Events.  If you are unsure and decide on the day, you can still attend our Campus and Accommodation stands where you book your time lot online.  The Campus tour stand will be in the Stockwell Street building and Campus tours will depart from the Stockwell Street foyer. The accommodation tour stand is in the Dreadnought atrium; Accommodation tours will depart from the Dreadnought atrium.

Avery Hill and Medway

You do not need to pre-book tours. If you are planning to go on any of the tours, please go up to the dedicated stands and enquire.

What about Covid and other infection prevention methods?

The safety of our guests, students and staff is our highest priority. We understand that COVID and other infectious illnesses are still a cause for concern for some and we will continue to apply sensible and proportionate infection prevention measures to help stop the spread of COVID and other respiratory illnesses, including influenza, and to reduce the risk to our community.

We strongly encourage all our visitors to frequently wash their hands, use our hand sanitising stations, and keep a safe social distance where possible.

If you are unwell, please stay at home, we have events running throughout the year and we are happy to transfer your ticket.
