Advanced Clinical Practitioner, MSc (Degree Apprenticeship)
Earn while you learn with our Advanced Clinical Practitioner Apprenticeship, which leads to a master's degree over three years.
Advanced Clinical Practice is about working in partnership with individuals, families and carers with and within multi-disciplinary teams. This postgraduate Advanced Clinical Practitioner Apprenticeship enables you to develop your knowledge, skills and confidence to manage complex cases autonomously within specific areas of practice.
The course is aimed at practitioners holding registration with a professional body and will lead to a master's degree (MSc) over three years of part-time study at university and in the workplace. It encompasses the four pillars of clinical practice, leadership and management, education and research with demonstration of core capabilities, and field-specific clinical competence.

Entry requirements
From the start of your apprenticeship, you will need to be employed in an appropriate healthcare setting
For entry, you will need to have:
- A first degree; normally 2:2 or above; or equivalent study
- Current registration with the NMC or HCPC or other relevant PSRB
- Evidence of substantial experience of working in the health and social care sector currently fulfilling a specialist role, with extensive post-qualification of experience in professional practice
- Current employment within an appropriate role with relevant experience
You will also need GCSEs at grade 4/C in mathematics and English or recognised level 2 equivalents

Further information about entry
Candidates will be required to:
- Attend an interview at a Selection Day
- If you were educated in a language other than English and/or in a country where English speakers are in a minority, you should have a minimum IELTS score of 7.0 or an equivalent rating in another Secure English Language Test.

How you will learn
Teaching
Our degree is made up of 50% theory, 50% practice and you will be assessed in both. We have an innovative teaching team and on placement, you will work under the expert supervision.
Class sizes
Class sizes vary by module. Lectures are normally attended by larger groups, and seminars/tutorials by smaller groups. This can vary more widely for modules that are shared between degrees. All students will have opportunities for one-to-one time with their tutors.
Independent learning
Throughout your apprenticeship, we will encourage you to learn independently with support from your lecturers and tutors to achieve your goals and broaden your knowledge through online learning and independent reading.
Overall workload
Typically your learning at university is through a combination of:
- Lectures
- Seminars to discuss and develop your understanding of lecture topics
- One-to-one tutorials
- Online learning through the university's virtual learning platform
- Simulation in our clinical skills laboratories to practice your clinical and communication skills in a safe and supervised environment
Assessment
Students are assessed through:
- Examinations
- Reports
- Group presentations
- Practical work
- Non-credit assessments such as portfolio verification.
Feedback summary
We aim to provide feedback on assignments and to release examination results within 15 working days.
