How you will learn
Teaching
Learning takes place through a combination of timetabled learning and independent study.
You can view more information about how each module is taught within our 'What you will study' section.
Seminars and workshops enable you to discuss and develop your understanding of topics covered in lectures in smaller groups. You will also be able to meet your dedicated Academic Tutor. Timetabled learning may fall between 9am and 9pm depending on your courses and tutorials.
Independent learning
Bird is committed to supporting students through personalised, accessible Learning & Wellbeing provision. At the start of each academic year, our team meets individually with students to understand their needs and to plan how best to support them throughout their three years at Bird. Students may choose to have weekly check-ins, where the learning and pastoral support offered is flexible and tailored, ranging from help with essay writing, time management, and memory skills to guidance on emotional regulation, coping mechanisms, adapting to change, interrelationships, and overcoming procrastination. Our Learning and Support Officers can also assist them in self-referring to counselling, arranging screening for specific learning differences through the University of Greenwich, or accessing Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA). Our aim is to ensure every student is empowered to thrive both academically and personally.
Overall workload
Most modules that you will study towards this degree is worth 15 or 30 credits. These represent around 150 or 300 study hours respectively. For example, if you receive 100 contact hours for a 30-credit module, you should expect to commit 200 hours to independent study to complete it successfully. The independent project is weighted at 60 credits, so it will involve 600 hours of effort.
Assessment
You can view how each module is assessed within our 'What you will study' section.
Each course has formal assessments which count towards your grade. Some courses may also include 'practice' assignments, which help you monitor progress and do not count towards your final grade.
Feedback summary
Formative feedback is provided on a rolling basis.Written feedback is provided on all formal assessments.Feedback consists of three key elements: What you did well on the assignment, what could have been stronger, and suggestions for moving forward.
