Communities

Alumni communities strengthen the relationship between our alumni, the university, and our global network.

Our communities

Alumni communities provide opportunities for alumni to network, socialise and collaborate based on their interests. Communities are hosted on our Ask Alumni+ platform – and there are many that you can join today.

Global Majority Alumni Community

The Global Majority Alumni Community (GMAC) is a vibrant and inclusive network dedicated to the voices and experiences of our global majority alumni.

About GMAC

The term ‘Global Majority’ reflects our commitment to inclusivity, recognising that individuals from Black, Asian, and other ethnic groups constitute the majority on a global scale. With GMAC, we will celebrate this diversity and strive to create a space that is both inclusive and impactful.

We understand that all collective terms have limitations and can be problematic. No single term can perfectly capture the diversity of experiences and identities within our community. We are committed to ongoing consultation with our alumni and will continue to consider alternatives as language and understanding evolve.

Our mission

Our mission is to foster a sense of belonging and collaboration among our alumni. Through events, projects, and dialogues, we aim to highlight the achievements of our global majority alumni, while also laying the groundwork for initiatives informed by their experiences. Our community is not just about celebration; it's about taking action and inspiring change.

At the University of Greenwich, our Race Action Group works to strategically deliver the University’s Race Action Plan and the application for the Race Equality Charter.

We are currently in the second year of implementing our plan which includes several significant projects for projects this academic year.

International Alumni Volunteering Community

The International Volunteer Community engage alumni to contribute to our global network and where alumni can find out about volunteering opportunities in their countries that support current and prospective students.

Throughout the year, we are interested in hearing from alumni based around the world to better engage and support our global alumni community.

Your involvement matters:

  • Give back: Contribute to the growth and success of the next generation of students.
  • Cultural exchange: Embrace diversity and learn about different cultures from first-hand experiences shared by your fellow alumni.
  • Social events and reunions: Relive your university memories and create new ones!

Join our Alumni: International Volunteers Group, where we connect with alumni based around the world to better engage and support our global Greenwich community. All volunteer hours are recorded, and volunteers are recognised in the annual Supporter Roll.

Alumni Volunteering Community

This community is a dedicated space for alumni interested in supporting the Greenwich community and our students. Through a range of different virtual and in-person activities across the year, we will be seeking alumni speakers, panellists, mentors, and much more.

Opportunities are usually in person at one of our three campuses. Please join the Alumni Volunteering Community on the Ask Alumni+ platform to find out about new and upcoming volunteer opportunities as they’re posted to the feed by University of Greenwich staff.
