Support

Transitioning at university

We recognise that the needs of each transgender person are different. We aim to act sensitively and supportively, and to provide commitment, support and understanding to all individuals who transition whilst at university.

We aim for an inclusive environment that is free from discrimination, harassment, or victimisation, and where everyone is treated with dignity and respect, however they identify in terms of gender.

No applicant or student will be treated less favourably than any other on the grounds of gender identity.

We will respond positively to the needs of transgender students and aim to provide an environment where all transgender students feel welcome, safe, valued, and supported to achieve their potential.

Policy and Procedure

The Transitioning Policy for Students offers a framework for how the university will support transgender people when they transition whilst registered as a student.

It provides information on support as well as details such as how you can tell us that you are transitioning. (You don't have to do this, but it allows us to offer you specific forms of support.)

It also explains what to do if you need to submit medical letters to take time away from your studies or to submit a claim for extenuating circumstances if your performance in an assessment or exam has been affected.
