Multi Function Devices (MFDs)

MFDs are Multi-Function Devices which can be used for printing, photocopying and scanning. They are located across all our campuses to provide you with low cost printing and copying.

MFDs contribute to the university's sustainable development pledge by reducing the number of printers and print cartridges used across our campuses. You can support this by only printing the jobs you need and scanning instead of photocopying.

Printing

We now use a "pull" printing system, which holds your print job(s) in a central location (print queue). You can then retrieve your print job(s) from any public printer by using your Greenwich Gateway card to tap the console and log in. You can print direct from a networked PC, or via WebPrint from a device connected to Wi-Fi.

The video below shows how to release or cancel your print jobs from an MFD.

Scanning

We recommend that you use the "scan and send" function on our MFDs to send scans of printed material to your university email address. This means you have a copy you can review and highlight yourself, while reducing the amount of paper we use.

The university holds a Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) licence, which permits scanning and copying of copyrighted material for the benefit of our staff and students. Please check the permitted amounts here, or by checking the signage next to our MFDs.
