The scholarship is to assist applicants who want to build their language skills in Mandarin, Spanish, French or Italian. As a cash bursary it can be used in a range of ways that the student chooses.

Priority for the scholarships will be given to students from backgrounds underrepresented in higher education such as areas of low higher education participation (e.g. POLAR 4 Q1) which is identified by home postcode, low socioeconomic backgrounds (e.g. Index of Multiple Deprivation Quintiles 1 and 2) which is identified by home postcode, or low household income. Despite this we welcome applications from students of all backgrounds. While this scholarship prioritises certain criteria, applications from students of all backgrounds are encouraged and welcomed.
