Research activity

A key focus of our work is to conduct research that has a practical impact on our local community. We also contribute to the NIHR-funded Mental Health Policy Research Unit. For further information on specific projects and researchers please get in touch.

About us

The Centre brings together expertise from different knowledge areas to provide innovative research, analysis and practice that can influence mental health policy and provision. We work in partnership with other universities in the UK and abroad, NHS organisations, mental health charities, and service users to achieve a genuine change that benefits people and services alike.

We are currently developing projects, or working on live studies including:

  • Surveys of health and social needs, both in our local community and globally
  • Interventions to improve student wellbeing and resilience
  • Use of virtual reality in addressing psychiatric symptoms
  • Studies of mental health concerns and substance use during life transitions and crises such as Covid-19.

ILD | Institute for Lifecourse Development

The ILD is a key anchor resource hosted by the Faculty of Education, Health & Human Sciences. Professionals from related fields will work closely together with researchers and stakeholders from public, charitable and voluntary organisations. Together they will develop effective and economically sustainable lifecourse solutions and tackle the grand challenge agendas society faces.
